We have finished making the bird boxes as part of the D.I.Y. badge and will be entering them in the Cub class at the Spring Show. By the time they are actually erected in the village gardens it will probably be a bit late for this year’s nesting season, but hopefully they will be in use next year.
Since all the Cubs earned the D.I.Y badge we gave over two nights to the home help award, so they could learn how to sew it on. They also learned how to shine shoes, clean a sink, polish the brass and iron a scarf. We did have the odd sleeve of a jersey where both sides were enthusiastically sewn together, but there was also some accomplished stitching. In the kitchen another group had a go at making leek and potato soup. Apart from the fact that the plastic plug to the blender was liquidized, in the first lot, it was a very good soup.
The Senlac District has just started an occasional forum for sixers to go along and discuss local events for Cubs. Joseph and Adam were our two delegates and spent a morning over at the Battle Scout Hut. We also put in a team of two for the District Chess Competition where Matthew and Elijah played for us.
Over half-term we had a couple of Cubs who worked hard to achieve their Swimmer 3 badge and congratulations go to Nathaniel who has also finished the Chief Scout’s Silver Award.
